Special facts
The Republic of Khakassia, with its capital in Abakan, lies in southern Siberia. The Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric station on the Yenisei, the most powerful power plant in Russia, stands here, and thousands of ancient burial mounds survive in its steppes. Lakes Shira and Tus in the north of the republic are known as resorts with healing waters. The 10-rouble coin "Republic of Khakasia" was issued in 2007 in the "Russian Federation" series.
