Special facts
Vologda is first mentioned in 1147, the same year as Moscow. Its main landmarks are the St Sophia Cathedral, built under Ivan the Terrible, and the Vologda Kremlin; the town is famous for lace and butter. Peter I visited the town several times, and his little house became a museum. The 10-rouble coin "Vologda" was issued in 2007 in the "Ancient Towns of Russia" series.
About the period
Modern Russia is the money after the redenomination of 1998, when a thousand old roubles became one new rouble. The coins and banknotes of the 1997 pattern are still in circulation. More about the period “Modern Russia”, 1997 — to present
