Special facts
Gdov is an old fortress of the Pskov lands near Lake Peipus, guarding their northern borders; its stone walls were built in the 15th century. In 1614 the fortress was taken by the Swedes, and the Treaty of Stolbovo in 1617 returned it to Russia. The 10-rouble coin "Gdov" was issued in 2007 in the "Ancient Towns of Russia" series.
About the period
Modern Russia is the money after the redenomination of 1998, when a thousand old roubles became one new rouble. The coins and banknotes of the 1997 pattern are still in circulation. More about the period “Modern Russia”, 1997 — to present
