Special facts

The Caucasian grouse is endemic to the Caucasus and lives at the upper edge of the forest and in subalpine meadows. In spring the males gather at their leks but, unlike the black grouse, display almost silently. The bird is listed in the Red Data Book of Russia. The 50-rouble coin "Caucasian Grouse" was issued in 1993 in the "Red Book" series.

About the period

The coins and banknotes of the Bank of Russia of 1992–1996 were the first money of the Russian Federation. They were issued in years of high inflation: denominations grew fast, and the metal of the coins got cheaper. More about the period “Bank of Russia”, 1992 — 1996
