Special facts
The Himalayan, or Asian black, bear lives in the forests of Primorye and the Amur region; it is easy to recognise by the white "collar" on its chest. It climbs trees well and makes its winter dens in the hollows of old poplars and limes. The 50-rouble coin "Himalayan Bear" was issued in 1993 in the "Red Book" series.
About the period
The coins and banknotes of the Bank of Russia of 1992–1996 were the first money of the Russian Federation. They were issued in years of high inflation: denominations grew fast, and the metal of the coins got cheaper. More about the period “Bank of Russia”, 1992 — 1996
