Special facts

The goitered gazelle is a small antelope of the deserts and semi-deserts of Asia; the males have lyre-shaped horns. Goitered gazelles live in Azerbaijan, Central Asia and Mongolia; in winter they gather in large herds, and in spring the females usually bear twins. The 50-rouble coin "Goitered Gazelle" was issued in 1994 in the "Red Book" series.

About the period

The coins and banknotes of the Bank of Russia of 1992–1996 were the first money of the Russian Federation. They were issued in years of high inflation: denominations grew fast, and the metal of the coins got cheaper. More about the period “Bank of Russia”, 1992 — 1996
