Special facts

The 5 roubles from the 1995 set for the 50th anniversary of the Great Victory is dedicated to the Red Army commanders who led their men into the attack. The symbol of this feat became “Kombat”, Max Alpert’s 1942 photograph of an officer with a pistol raising his men to the attack; it is thought to show junior political officer Alexei Yeremenko, killed minutes later.

About the period

The coins and banknotes of the Bank of Russia of 1992–1996 were the first money of the Russian Federation. They were issued in years of high inflation: denominations grew fast, and the metal of the coins got cheaper. More about the period “Bank of Russia”, 1992 — 1996
