Special facts

The rouble from the 1996 set for the tercentenary of the Russian fleet is dedicated to the fishing fleet. The fleet traces its history to the Boyar Duma's decision of 1696, "There shall be seagoing vessels". The country’s main fishing ports are Murmansk and Vladivostok, and the main catch, led by pollock and cod, comes from the Sea of Okhotsk and the Barents Sea.

About the period

The coins and banknotes of the Bank of Russia of 1992–1996 were the first money of the Russian Federation. They were issued in years of high inflation: denominations grew fast, and the metal of the coins got cheaper. More about the period “Bank of Russia”, 1992 — 1996
