Credit notes of Alexander III
State Credit Notes of the State Bank in the reign of Alexander III (1881–1894). The notes of the 1866 pattern (1, 3, 5, 10 and 100 roubles) carry the monogram of Alexander III, were printed with the dates 1882–1886 and were taken out of use at the start of 1893. The notes of the new 1887 pattern entered circulation in 1888–1889 and, after the Witte reform, continued to be issued with a changed exchange text. The notes were signed by the manager of the bank (Tsimsen, then Zhukovsky, from 1894 Pleske) and a cashier, and printed by the Expedition for the Preparation of State Papers in Saint Petersburg.
Appearance
Twenty-five-rouble note of 1887 on a beige ground, dark blue print, light violet back. At left a portico with the monogram of Alexander III among laurel leaves, with a draped cloth carrying the state arms between the columns. Watermark: repeated dark and light diagonal lines with the figure 25 between stripes. Size 165 × 95 mm; the only date is 1887, in circulation from 15 July 1888. A copy perforated "ГБ" is known.
