Credit notes of Alexander III
State Credit Notes of the State Bank in the reign of Alexander III (1881–1894). The notes of the 1866 pattern (1, 3, 5, 10 and 100 roubles) carry the monogram of Alexander III, were printed with the dates 1882–1886 and were taken out of use at the start of 1893. The notes of the new 1887 pattern entered circulation in 1888–1889 and, after the Witte reform, continued to be issued with a changed exchange text. The notes were signed by the manager of the bank (Tsimsen, then Zhukovsky, from 1894 Pleske) and a cashier, and printed by the Expedition for the Preparation of State Papers in Saint Petersburg.
Appearance
Ten-rouble note of the 1866 pattern with the monogram of Alexander III: red print, black text. At left a ring of guilloche rosettes with Roman X, the monogram at the bottom, the state arms inside under a crown. The back carries an oval portrait of Tsar Mikhail Fyodorovich. Dated 1882, 1884 and 1886; size 170 × 100 mm (the 1882 date is 162 mm wide). Watermark: a figured frame with a large light oval and "ГКБ". Withdrawn from circulation on 1 January 1893.
