State Credit Notes of 1866–1886
The credit notes of the 1866 pattern with the monogram of Alexander II entered circulation in 1869 and are dated 1866–1880 (1, 3, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 roubles). The fronts of the regular notes are framed by micro-text of the denomination, and the back carries an extract from the manifesto on credit notes and an oval portrait of a Russian ruler (the 1 and 3 roubles and the funtovka have none). The notes were signed by the deputy manager of the State Bank, Lamansky, and a cashier. From 1876 the 25-rouble note was also printed as the one-sided "funtovka". The notes dated 1882–1886 carry the monogram of Alexander III and are described under 1887–1896. Most were withdrawn from 1 January 1893.
Appearance
One-hundred-rouble note of the 1866 pattern with the monogram of Alexander II on a light beige ground. A frame of small rosettes with "100" and the words "СТО РУБЛЕЙ" at the top and bottom, ovals with "СТО" in the corners. At left a ring with bas-reliefs and the state arms, the monogram at the bottom of the ring and a large crown on top; at right a large oval with the figure 100. The back has a rainbow ground with an oval portrait of Empress Catherine II (after Lampi's 1792 painting in the Catherine Hall of the Winter Palace). Size 217 × 120 mm; dated 1866, 1872, 1874, 1876, 1878 and 1880, in circulation from 17 March 1869. A specimen "ОБРАЗЕЦЪ" is known.
