Special facts

Kaluga is first mentioned in 1371, in a letter of the Lithuanian prince Algirdas. Konstantin Tsiolkovsky lived and worked in Kaluga, home of the State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics named after him. Nearby, on the Ugra, the Horde yoke came to an end in 1480. The 10-rouble coin "Kaluga (14th century)" was issued in 2009 in the "Ancient Towns of Russia" series.
