Special facts
Bryansk is one of the oldest towns of the Chernigov lands: by tradition it was founded in 985, and it is first mentioned in the chronicles in 1146. The town stands on the Desna amid forests, hence its old name, Debryansk. Outside the city stands the Svensky Monastery, founded in 1288. The 10-rouble coin "Bryansk (10th century)" was issued in 2010 in the "Ancient Towns of Russia" series.
About the period
Modern Russia is the money after the redenomination of 1998, when a thousand old roubles became one new rouble. The coins and banknotes of the 1997 pattern are still in circulation. More about the period “Modern Russia”, 1997 — to present
