Special facts

Murmansk is a Hero City: its ice-free port received the Allied Arctic convoys, and the enemy never managed to take the city, though it bombed it savagely. Murmansk received the title of Hero City in 1985, on the same day as Smolensk. This 2-rouble coin honouring the Hero City of Murmansk was issued in 2000 for the 55th anniversary of Victory.

About the period

Modern Russia is the money after the redenomination of 1998, when a thousand old roubles became one new rouble. The coins and banknotes of the 1997 pattern are still in circulation. More about the period “Modern Russia”, 1997 — to present
