Special facts

Moscow is a Hero City: in the Battle of Moscow in the autumn of 1941 the German advance was halted, and in December the Red Army went over to the counteroffensive. On 7 November 1941 a parade was held on Red Square, from which the troops went straight to the front. This 2-rouble coin honouring the Hero City of Moscow was issued in 2000 for the 55th anniversary of Victory.

About the period

Modern Russia is the money after the redenomination of 1998, when a thousand old roubles became one new rouble. The coins and banknotes of the 1997 pattern are still in circulation. More about the period “Modern Russia”, 1997 — to present
