Special facts

The 1987 3 roubles for the 70th anniversary of the October Revolution began the issue of Soviet commemorative 3-rouble coins. Its mintage was about 2.3 million, fewer than the rouble of the same anniversary, and later 3-rouble coins were devoted to aid for Armenia and to the Battle of Moscow. The USSR had no 3-rouble coins for ordinary circulation, only commemoratives.

About the period

The currency reform of 1961 was a 10-to-1 redenomination: from 1 January 1961 old money was exchanged for new money of one tenth the face value. The coins and banknotes of the 1961 pattern circulated until the end of the Soviet Union. More about the period “1961 Monetary Reform”, 1961 — 1991
