Special facts

A 1989 3-rouble coin about aid to the victims of the Spitak earthquake in Armenia on 7 December 1988. The earthquake destroyed Spitak and Leninakan, today’s Gyumri, and killed some 25,000 people; Mikhail Gorbachev cut short a visit to the United States to fly to Armenia, and rescuers came from many countries.

About the period
