Special facts
A 1985 rouble for the 40th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. On 9 May 1985 an anniversary parade was held on Red Square, and veterans received the medal “Forty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War”. It is the third rouble for a Victory anniversary, after 1965 and 1975. The mintage was about 6 million, more than most commemorative roubles of those years.
About the period
The currency reform of 1961 was a 10-to-1 redenomination: from 1 January 1961 old money was exchanged for new money of one tenth the face value. The coins and banknotes of the 1961 pattern circulated until the end of the Soviet Union. More about the period “1961 Monetary Reform”, 1961 — 1991
