Special facts
A 1984 rouble for the 185th anniversary of Alexander Pushkin (1799–1837). The rouble was issued in 1984 and 1985. Alexander Opekushin’s monument to Pushkin was unveiled in Moscow in 1880 with money raised by subscription, and the poet’s last flat, at 12 Moika, became a museum. Pushkin died in 1837 after a duel with Georges d’Anthès.
About the period
The currency reform of 1961 was a 10-to-1 redenomination: from 1 January 1961 old money was exchanged for new money of one tenth the face value. The coins and banknotes of the 1961 pattern circulated until the end of the Soviet Union. More about the period “1961 Monetary Reform”, 1961 — 1991
