Special facts
The Tver Region is where the Volga and the Western Dvina rise, and Lake Seliger lies here too. The regional centre is Tver. In the 14th century Tver vied with Moscow for primacy among the Russian principalities, and the merchant Afanasy Nikitin set out from here on his “journey beyond three seas”. The 10-rouble coin "Tver Region" was issued in 2005 in the "Russian Federation" series.
About the period
Modern Russia is the money after the redenomination of 1998, when a thousand old roubles became one new rouble. The coins and banknotes of the 1997 pattern are still in circulation. More about the period “Modern Russia”, 1997 — to present
