Special facts
Ryazhsk in the Ryazan Region grew out of a fortress on the southern edge of the Ryazan lands that guarded them against raids. In the 19th century the town became a major railway junction. The first train from Ryazhsk to Skopin ran on 8 December 1870. The 10-rouble coin "Ryazhsk" was issued in 2004 in the "Ancient Towns of Russia" series.
