Special facts
On this note of Nicholas II the watermark still shows his father, Alexander III.
Appearance
Twenty-five-rouble note of 1899: the multicolour Orlov design of 1892 with a new date and the gold-exchange text. Orange-and-green front, red, blue, light green and yellow print; the watermark shows Alexander III. Size 174 × 104 mm. In use until the note of 1909.
About the period
The credit notes of 1898–1899 were issued after the Witte currency reform: the exchange they promise is for gold coin only. The date on the note was not updated — the rouble dated 1898 was printed until 1918 — so it is the manager's signature, not the date, that tells when a note was issued.
