Special facts

The ten-ruble note could be exchanged at the bank for a gold ten-ruble coin weighing 8.6 grams.

Appearance

Ten-rouble note of 1898, the vertical 1894 design with a new date and the gold-exchange text. Red, brown, yellow and blue Orlov print, red dominating. Watermark: the figure 10 repeated at an angle. Size 104 × 174 mm. Replaced by the note of 1909.

About the period

The credit notes of 1898–1899 were issued after the Witte currency reform: the exchange they promise is for gold coin only. The date on the note was not updated — the rouble dated 1898 was printed until 1918 — so it is the manager's signature, not the date, that tells when a note was issued.
