Special facts
For its portrait of Catherine II the hundred-ruble note was nicknamed the “katenka”.
Appearance
The 100-rouble note of 1898 with a portrait of Catherine II replaced the notes of the 1866 pattern. The front is divided in two: a large decorated field at the left and an empty white field at the right for the series and number. The watermark is also a portrait of Catherine II. Colours: beige, black, red, blue and green; size 260 × 122 mm. It was replaced by the 100-rouble note of the 1910 pattern.
About the period
The credit notes of 1898–1899 were issued after the Witte currency reform: the exchange they promise is for gold coin only. The date on the note was not updated — the rouble dated 1898 was printed until 1918 — so it is the manager's signature, not the date, that tells when a note was issued.
