Special facts
Near Kalach-on-Don in November 1942 the ring closed around the German forces at Stalingrad — here the fronts advancing from the north and south met. The town stands where the Don comes closest to the Volga: the Volga–Don Canal begins here. The 10-rouble coin "Kalach-on-Don" was issued in 2015 in the "Cities of Military Glory" series.
