Special facts

The Irkutsk Region, with its centre in Irkutsk, lies on the shore of Baikal. Large hydroelectric stations stand on the Angara — the Irkutsk, Bratsk and Ust-Ilimsk plants. Irkutsk was founded in 1661 as a stockade, and in the 19th century exiled Decembrists lived here; their houses are now museums. The 10-rouble coin "Irkutsk Region" was issued in 2016 in the "Russian Federation" series.

About the period

Modern Russia is the money after the redenomination of 1998, when a thousand old roubles became one new rouble. The coins and banknotes of the 1997 pattern are still in circulation. More about the period “Modern Russia”, 1997 — to present
