Special facts

Sevastopol is a Hero City that twice withstood a long siege — in the Crimean War of 1854–1855 and in 1941–1942; the city was liberated on 9 May 1944. Sevastopol received the title of Hero City in 1945, and the chief monument to the 19th-century defence is the Monument to the Scuttled Ships. This 2-rouble coin on Sevastopol was issued in 2017 in the Hero Cities series.

About the period

Modern Russia is the money after the redenomination of 1998, when a thousand old roubles became one new rouble. The coins and banknotes of the 1997 pattern are still in circulation. More about the period “Modern Russia”, 1997 — to present
