5000 rubles — RSFSR (1921)

The five-thousand-rouble settlement note of the 1921 issue was authorised by the same decree of the Council of People's Commissars of 16 June 1921 as the other denominations in this series, and went into circulation the same day. It carries two signatures: that of Nikolai Krestinsky, People's Commissar of Finance (the same on all notes), and one of six cashiers, set by the series and block number. It was printed at three Goznak factories: the First Moscow factory printed series АА and АЛ, the Ural (Perm) factory printed АГ, and the Penza factory printed ББ. Planned series at the Rostov factory (АН, АР, АУ, АЦ) and a planned Perm series НН were never actually printed. The notes began to be withdrawn from circulation on 1 July 1922, and could be exchanged for 1922-series roubles at 10,000 to 1 until 1 November 1922.

The paper carries a star watermark. A misprint is known: the German word 'PROLETARIER' in the reverse slogan is printed as 'PROLETAPIER' — found on series АА, АЛ and АГ. Specimens are perforated or overprinted with «ОБРАЗЕЦ», tied to notes from the First Moscow and Ural factories.

The obverse is brown: the value '5000' and the inscription 'РАСЧЕТНЫЙ ЗНАК РОССИЙСКОЙ СОЦИАЛИСТИЧЕСКОЙ ФЕДЕРАТИВНОЙ СОВЕТСКОЙ РЕСПУБЛИКИ', the signatures of the People's Commissar of Finance and a cashier, and the block number in the lower right corner. The reverse has the RSFSR coat of arms at upper centre, with the slogan 'Workers of the world, unite!' in six languages (Cyrillic, Latin/German, French, Italian, Chinese, Arabic) around the value. The note measures 112 × 77 mm.
