Issue history

The three chervontsa was the first note of the series issued in the name of the State Bank of the USSR rather than the RSFSR; it circulated from 15 August 1924. According to the note, three chervontsa equal 5 zolotniks 42¾ doli (23.23 g) of pure gold. Designed by Ivan Dubasov, engraved by Anton Vasyutinsky. Specimens survive perforated "ОБРАЗЕЦ" — without signatures, serial numbers or seal.

Signatures

The note was signed by the whole management board of the State Bank of the USSR — the signatures depend on its composition. The first issue (1924, then again 1926-1929) carries chairman A. Sheinman's board (Sheinman, Tumanov, Katsenelenbaum, Mikhelman, Sher); the second (1925, a brief chairmanship of G. Pyatakov between Sheinman's two terms) carries Pyatakov's board (Pyatakov, Katsenelenbaum, Sher, Arkus). The perforated specimen carries the first board's signatures.

Appearance

The note is printed in black and red on a multicolour guilloché ground. At upper left is a sower, in the centre the USSR arms, at right the value and at lower left the seal of the State Bank of the USSR; the red serial number is repeated twice. The watermark shows an ornamental frame with the figure "3" in two circles in all four corners, the letters "ГБ", the words "ТРИ ЧЕРВОНЦА" and the year "1924". The back is blank; size 180 × 105 mm.
