Issue history

The two chervontsa came out in June–July 1928; designed by Ivan Dubasov. The text of the law is printed in Russian and repeated in Ukrainian, Belarusian, Georgian, Armenian, in Arabic script and in Tatar. The note is also found with the overprint "Имеет хождение только в Т.Н.Р." — for circulation in the Tuvan People's Republic.

Signatures

Four boards of the State Bank signed the note over its issue. Chairman A. Sheinman's board — series АА–ЕВ, 1928–1929 (Sheinman, Katsenelenbaum, Spunde, Morin, Sher). Chairman G. Pyatakov's board — series ЕМ–ЗС, 1929 (Pyatakov, Sher, Katsenelenbaum, Morin). M. Kalmanovich and L. Maryasin's board — series ИВ–КУ, 1930–1931 (Kalmanovich, Karklin, Kirpont, Maryasin). Another Kalmanovich board — series ЛЕ–ЯЯ and later, 1932–1936 (Kalmanovich, Gorbunov, Arkus, Vynosov). The "ОБРАЗЕЦ"/"НЕПЛАТЕЖНЫЙ" overprint specimen carries the Sheinman board's signatures, the other specimen those of the Kalmanovich and Karklin board.

Appearance

The front is dark green with black. The value on a guilloché ground appears twice along the top edges, the USSR arms at top centre, the text of the law in cartouches at the sides and in the centre, repeated in Tatar at the bottom; the signatures are at lower right. The number is printed twice: red on the left, black on the right. The multicolour back has an ornamental frame: the value in the corners, the value in six languages on either side of the centre and the date at the bottom. No watermark; size 158 × 88 mm.

About the period

The chervontsy of 1924–1932 are State Bank of the USSR notes of 1, 2, 3 and 5 chervontsev with their gold content stated on them. All the denominations remained in circulation until the currency reform of 1947. More about the period “Chervonets”, 1924 — 1932
