Chervonets notes of the State Bank of the USSR (1932)

The 3-chervontsa note dated 1932 is a banknote of the State Bank of the USSR, the last-issued denomination of the gold-backed chervonets series, dated to 1932 rather than the 1920s. It states that one chervonets contains 7.74234 grams of pure gold, exchangeable for gold once a special government act sets a start date; the legal text is repeated in the languages of the union republics and, uniquely in this series, also in Latin script and a Turkic-language line. The note entered circulation in September 1932, printed using the Orlov multicolour-registration technique, designed by Ivan Dubasov, on unwatermarked paper. It remained in circulation until the 1947 currency reform and was demonetized on 14 December 1947.

В отличие от остальных номиналов этой серии, знак за всю историю выпуска подписывал только один состав правления Государственного банка СССР — председателя М. Калмановича (Калманович, Аркус, Марьясин); те же подписи и у образца.

Appearance

Green and black obverse print: a banner alternating the denomination and legal text at the top, the denomination on a guilloche ground at the edges, the USSR coat of arms at upper centre, legal text, value and date at centre, the denomination and legal text repeated twice more with signatures at lower centre; the serial number is red on the left, black on the right, printed twice. The reverse is multicolour print: the denomination in all four corners and on a guilloche ground at the edges, the value in rectangles at the top, again at centre on a guilloche ground, three times in elongated hexagons at the bottom and in an ornamental frame at bottom centre. No watermark. Size: 157 × 88 mm.
