Special facts

The Gomel palace on the front was begun by Field Marshal Pyotr Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky, who received Gomel from Catherine II in 1775; the estate later passed to the Paskevich family, hence the double name.

Appearance

Twenty-rouble note of the 2009 pattern. The front shows the Rumyantsev-Paskevich Palace in Gomel; the back a collage on spirituality: a bell, the Turau Gospel, the ancient town of Turau and carved ornament. The halftone watermark repeats a fragment of the front image; the windowed metallised security thread is narrow. Size 143 × 72 mm. Dated 2009 and issued on 1 July 2016; it carries the facsimile of Pyotar Prakapovich. Printed by De La Rue, London. Notes from the commemorative set "My Country — Belarus" (1,000 copies) with a special series and number are known.

About the period

The 2009 banknotes spent seven years in storage and entered circulation only on 1 July 2016, at the 10,000-to-1 redenomination, when the rouble received its current code BYN. More about the period “Issue of 2009 (2016 release)”
