100 rubles — RSFSR (1921) — Orange

The hundred-rouble settlement note of the 1921 issue was authorised by the decree of the Council of People's Commissars of 16 June 1921 and went into circulation in August 1921; it was issued by the Budget and Settlement Department of the People's Commissariat of Finance. The date '1921' is printed on the note itself, but it carries no signatures or serial numbers. This orange variant was printed at the Penza factory of Goznak, in sheets of 20 (4 × 5). The notes began to be withdrawn from circulation on 1 July 1922, and could be exchanged for 1922-series roubles at 10,000 to 1 until 1 November 1922.

The paper carries a watermark of the numeral '100' repeated across the sheet. A full sheet is worth more than single notes. Two specimen types are known: one perforated «ОБРАЗЕЦ» separately on the obverse and reverse, and one with a two-sided red/blue «ОБРАЗЕЦ» overprint mirrored on the reverse.

The obverse has an ornamental frame with rounded corners: the value '100' on the left, the 1920-pattern RSFSR coat of arms on the right, and the inscriptions 'РАСЧЕТНЫЙ ЗНАК СТО РУБЛЕЙ' and 'ОБЕСПЕЧИВАЕТСЯ ВСЕМ ДОСТОЯНИЕМ РЕСПУБЛИКИ' in the centre. The printing is orange, and the reverse is almost blank, showing only a background pattern in the same colour. The note measures 86 × 49 mm.
