Special facts
Vyazma is first mentioned in 1239. The town stood on the trade route from Smolensk to Moscow and more than once found itself at the centre of wars — in the Time of Troubles, in 1812 and in both world wars. Vyazma is also famous for its gingerbread. The 10-rouble coin "Vyazma, Smolensk Region" was issued in 2019 in the "Ancient Towns of Russia" series.
About the period
Modern Russia is the money after the redenomination of 1998, when a thousand old roubles became one new rouble. The coins and banknotes of the 1997 pattern are still in circulation. More about the period “Modern Russia”, 1997 — to present
