Special facts
The Kurgan Region lies beyond the Urals in the south of Western Siberia. Its centre, Kurgan, grew out of Tsaryovo Gorodishche, founded in 1679; exiled Decembrists lived here in the 19th century. The town was named after the Tsar’s Kurgan, an ancient burial mound nearby, and the region is home to the 17th-century Dalmatovo Dormition Monastery. A coin of the "Russian Federation" series, 2018.
