Chervonets notes of the State Bank of the USSR (1926)

The 1-chervonets note is a banknote of the State Bank of the USSR dated 1926, continuing the Goznak series begun slightly earlier by the 3-chervontsa note (1924). It states that one chervonets contains 7.74234 grams of pure gold, exchangeable for gold once a special government act sets a start date. Printed using the Orlov multicolour-registration technique, a Goznak method for precisely aligning intricate guilloche patterns across several colour plates. Obverse designed by Ivan Dubasov, reverse by Vladimir Kupriyanov. Printed on unwatermarked paper. Though dated 1926, it only entered circulation later -- sources give either October 1926 or 1 March 1927 -- and continued to be printed from the same dated plate until 1934. It remained in circulation until the 1947 currency reform and was demonetized on 14 December 1947.

Шейнмана (Шейнман, Каценеленбаум, Хрущёв, Шлезингер, Мануйлов). Второй (серии ВМ–ЕЕ, 1929) — правление председателя Г. Пятакова (Пятаков, Каценеленбаум, Шер, Аркус), тот же состав, что и на трёх червонцах 1924 года выпуска 1925 года. Третий (серии ЗВ–ЛЕ, 1930–1931) и четвёртый (серии МБ–ЯЯ и далее, 1932–1934) — оба под руководством М. Калмановича и Л. Марьясина, различаются двумя другими членами правления (Аркус и Карклин — в третьем, Шер и Горбунов — в четвёртом). У образца с перфорацией — подписи первого состава (Шейнмана), у образца с красной надпечаткой — третьего (Калмановича/Карклина).

Appearance

Blue-black obverse print on a multicolour, predominantly yellow ground: the USSR coat of arms in a cartouche at upper left, the denomination in guilloche cartouches at upper centre and right, the date and value unit at the edges, legal text and signatures at centre; the serial number is red on the left, blue-black on the right, printed twice. The reverse is blue-green and blue-black print: the denomination at centre on a guilloche ground, surrounded by repeated value text. No watermark. Size: 155 × 84 mm.
