Credit notes of Alexander III
State Credit Notes of the State Bank in the reign of Alexander III (1881–1894). The notes of the 1866 pattern (1, 3, 5, 10 and 100 roubles) carry the monogram of Alexander III, were printed with the dates 1882–1886 and were taken out of use at the start of 1893. The notes of the new 1887 pattern entered circulation in 1888–1889 and, after the Witte reform, continued to be issued with a changed exchange text. The notes were signed by the manager of the bank (Tsimsen, then Zhukovsky, from 1894 Pleske) and a cashier, and printed by the Expedition for the Preparation of State Papers in Saint Petersburg.
Appearance
Multicolour twenty-five-rouble note of 1892, Orlov print. The front shows a standing female figure in a royal cap with sceptre and orb, holding a shield with the Small State Emblem; the back has six identical female heads around the figure 25. Watermark: a portrait of Alexander III in an oval window. Size 174 × 104 mm. In circulation from 20 August 1892. The date 1892 appears on notes with two manager signatures: Zhukovsky (issued 1892–1893) and Pleske (issued 1894–1897).
