Assignats of 1818–1843

The new assignats of 1818–1819 were the first made in the Expedition for the Preparation of State Papers (opened in Saint Petersburg in 1818): the print quality is much higher and they are harder to forge. The main change is the frame with a double-headed eagle (the "Masonic" arms, without crowns) at the top. The first note of the new pattern entered circulation on 20 October 1818. The old 5- and 10-rouble notes were exchanged one for one from 1 July 1819 for a year, the larger ones from 1 January 1820. The denominations of 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 and 200 roubles were issued with dates up to 1843, when all assignats were replaced by the State Credit Notes. The 20-rouble notes of 1822–1823 remained unissued trials. The signature of the manager of the Assignation Bank is a facsimile.

Appearance

Twenty-rouble assignat of 1822 on reddish paper, a colour trial that was never issued. The design is the same as the green trial: the "Masonic" arms, the text of the promise, the back a dark oval with the figure 20. Included as a collectable object.
