Appearance
Twenty-rouble assignat of 1822 on green paper, prepared in 1822–1823 but never issued. At the top the "Masonic" arms, below them the text of the promise "ДВАДЦАТЬ РУБЛЕЙ ходячею монетою", at the bottom on a dark ground the facsimile signature of the manager and a hand-written signature. The back is a dark oval with the figure 20. Two other colour trials, red and blue, exist.
About the period
The assignats of the 1818–1819 pattern were the first Russian paper money printed at the Expedition for the Preparation of State Papers. The printing became much better, and the notes harder to forge. More about the period “Assignats”, 1818 — 1843
