Special facts
A two-ruble value is unusual for Russian state paper money: such notes were issued neither before nor later, in the USSR.
Issue history
The two-rouble note of the first series. Issuer: the People's Bank of the RSFSR; print run: 410.35 million.
Sheets, error and specimens
The 2-rouble note was printed in sheets of 25 (5 × 5); the uncut sheet in the Denisov catalogue is К3-2л. A printing error occurs — the back upside down (К3-2.1). Specimens are perforated «ОБРАЗЕЦ».
Appearance
The obverse is printed in brown in two shades, dark and light. Their reverses differ: on the dark brown note the reverse is mainly blue and pale green, on the light brown one red-brown. The reverse is multicoloured on a guilloché background. The paper carries a lozenge watermark across the whole field.
About the period
The settlement notes of 1919 were the first Soviet paper money with the arms of the RSFSR. They came out in two series: small notes of 1, 2 and 3 roubles, and large ones from 15 to 10,000 roubles. More about the period “Settlement notes”, 1919
