Special facts
Veliky Novgorod was occupied from August 1941 to January 1944 and almost completely destroyed; the occupiers dismantled the Millennium of Russia monument, which was restored in 1944. Birch-bark letters found here since 1951 preserve messages written by townspeople of the 11th–15th centuries. The 10-rouble coin "Veliky Novgorod" was issued in 2012 in the "Cities of Military Glory" series.
About the period
Modern Russia is the money after the redenomination of 1998, when a thousand old roubles became one new rouble. The coins and banknotes of the 1997 pattern are still in circulation. More about the period “Modern Russia”, 1997 — to present
