Special facts
Stary Oskol was founded in 1593 as the fortress of Oskol on the southern border of the Muscovite state. In 1942–1943 the town was occupied, and heavy fighting took place around it. Today the town is one of the centres of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly, home to the Oskol electrometallurgical works. The 10-rouble coin "Stary Oskol" was issued in 2014 in the "Cities of Military Glory" series.
