Special facts
Vladikavkaz, called Ordzhonikidze during the war, became the line in the autumn of 1942 where the German advance into the Caucasus and towards the Grozny oil was halted. The fortress from which the city grew was laid down in 1784 at the entrance to the Darial Gorge. The 10-rouble coin "Vladikavkaz" was issued in 2011 in the "Cities of Military Glory" series.
