Special facts
Catherine II’s five-kopek piece of 51.2 grams was struck at seven mints, above all at Yekaterinburg, which issued more than 57 million of them in 1771. Several types are told apart by the eagle and the position of the mint letters, and the Tauric coins of 1787–1788 bear the letters “TM”.
About the period
The coins of Catherine II come from the longest reign of the 18th century and form the most recognisable set: heavy copper 5 kopecks, silver and gold with the empress's portrait, and a separate Siberian coinage. More about the period “Catherine II”, 1762 — 1796
