Special facts
The blue of the five-ruble notes came down from the “sinenkaya” assignats and carried over to the credit notes.
Appearance
Five-rouble credit note of the 1843 pattern on a bluish ground. Ornaments of four frames joined by semicircular patterns stand at the sides; at the top a complex pattern with ovals holding the figure 5 around a circle with the arms, at the bottom an oval cartouche "ПЯТЬ РУБ: СЕРЕБ:" with an oval "IIIII" above it. Watermark: a mesh of circles with letters forming the words of the denomination, the title and the year. Size 170 × 110 mm; dated 1843, 1847, 1851, 1854–1861 and 1863–1865 (there is no 1862). A specimen "ОБРАЗЕЦ" without signatures is known.
About the period
