Issue history

The twenty-five-rouble state currency note of 1922 was issued on 26 November 1921. The issue was denominated in the new, revalued currency: one new rouble equalled 10,000 roubles of all earlier issues. It was authorised by the decree of the Council of People's Commissars of 3 November 1921 and printed at the First Moscow factory of Goznak. Series АА, БА and ВА (100 blocks each, 1001–1100) and ГА (29 blocks, 1001–1029) were printed, one million notes per block — 329,000,000 in all. The notes were withdrawn from circulation on 1 October 1923.

Signatures and cashiers

The note carries two signatures: that of Nikolai Krestinsky, People's Commissar of Finance (the same on all notes), and one of ten cashiers. The cashier is set by the last digit of the block number: 1 — Silayev; 2 — Selyavo; 3 — Beliayev; 4 — Kolosov; 5 — Porokhov; 6 — Onikov; 7 — Dyukov; 8 — Kozlov; 9 — Sapunov; 0 — Loshkin.

Appearance and specimens

The printing is brown. The paper carries a watermark of small six-pointed stars across the note. The note measures 132 × 84 mm. Specimens come in two forms: with a double-sided «ОБРАЗЕЦ» overprint (mirrored on the reverse) and as a pair of uniface notes with a diagonal «ОБРАЗЕЦ» perforation.
