Special facts

Nizhny Novgorod was founded in 1221 by Grand Prince Yuri Vsevolodovich of Vladimir on a hill at the confluence of the Oka and the Volga. The militia of Minin and Pozharsky set out from here in 1612, and in the 19th century the city hosted the Nizhny Novgorod Fair, the largest in the country. The Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin with its thirteen towers stands above the Volga. A coin of the "Ancient Towns of Russia" series, 2021.
