The Ivanovo Region is a textile land: because of its weaving mills Ivanovo is called the city of brides. It is one of the smallest regions of Russia by area, and lacquer miniatures are painted here in Palekh. Shuya and Kineshma were weaving towns too, and Ples on the Volga inspired Isaac Levitan.
