Issue history

The one-rouble state currency note of 1922 was issued on 26 November 1921. The issue was denominated in the new, revalued currency: one new rouble equalled 10,000 roubles of all earlier issues. It was authorised by the decree of the Council of People's Commissars of 3 November 1921 and printed at the First Moscow factory of Goznak. Only series АА was printed, blocks 001–035, one million notes per block — 35,000,000 in all. The notes were withdrawn from circulation on 1 October 1923.

Signatures and cashiers

The note carries two signatures: that of Nikolai Krestinsky, People's Commissar of Finance (the same on all notes), and one of nine cashiers. The cashiers rotate in a cycle with the block number: block 1 — Selyavo, 2 — Dyukov, 3 — Silayev, 4 — Porokhov, 5 — Sapunov, 6 — Smirnov, 7 — Beliayev, 8 — Gerasimov, 9 — Kozlov, after which the cycle repeats. Each cashier has four blocks, Kozlov three.

Appearance and specimens

The printing is orange. The obverse has the state coat of arms at upper left, with the value and signatures within a decorative frame at the centre; the reverse has text stating the value and that the note must be accepted for payment at the centre, with the value in guilloches on the left and right. The paper carries a watermark of small six-pointed stars across the note. The note measures 135 × 67 mm. Specimens come in two forms: with a double-sided «ОБРАЗЕЦ» overprint (mirrored on the reverse) and as a pair of uniface notes with a horizontal «ОБРАЗЕЦЪ» perforation.
