Duma notes
The State Credit Notes of 1917 in 250 and 1000 roubles, designed by the Provisional Government without imperial symbols: the underprint carries a double-headed eagle without crowns and a right-turned swastika, a symbol of rebirth and prosperity. The 1000-rouble note was nicknamed "dumka" after the Tauride Palace, the building of the State Duma, on its back; the 250 roubles took the same name. The notes were printed under the Provisional Government and later under the Soviet government, until the credit notes of 1918 appeared; in the autumn of 1922 they were exchanged for the new money. All issues carry the signature of Shipov.
Appearance
One-thousand-rouble State Credit Note of 1917, the "dumka", green; it gave its name to all the notes of this type. A solid light green ground, a rectangular ornamental frame with guilloche rosettes holding 1000 in the corners; in the centre a frame with large rosettes and the words "ТЫСЯЧА РУБЛЕЙ" and "ГОСУДАРСТВЕННЫЙ КРЕДИТНЫЙ БИЛЕТЪ". The back, on a light beige ground with symbolic rays, carries an engraving of the Tauride Palace in Petrograd, the building of the State Duma, in a complex guilloche rosette. Watermark: a pattern of wavy lines with dots. Size 214 × 132 mm; printed from June 1917 (Provisional Government issue) and then under the Soviet government (series АИ and higher), with the signature of Shipov.
